Inquiry into Racism, Hate and Violence directed at Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People

The Joint Standing Committee on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Affairs adopted an Inquiry into Racism, Hate and Violence directed at Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People on 4 March 2026, following a referral from the Minister for Indigenous Australians, Senator the Hon Malarndirri McCarthy.

As one of 662 submissions from across Australia, Aboriginal Investment NT welcomes the opportunity to contribute to this important national inquiry and to ensure the experiences and perspectives of Aboriginal Territorians are heard.

Our submission is informed by engagement with communities across urban, regional and remote parts of the Northern Territory and reflects a consistent reality: racism is not isolated or occasional - it is systemic, structural and increasingly normalised in public discourse, digital environments and policy settings.

For Aboriginal communities, freedom from racism cannot be separated from economic empowerment, health, wellbeing or opportunity. It is foundational to all of them.
