Cultivating success: Aboriginal Investment NT funds Pinyama Nursery to thrive

Daniel operates a nursery in Pirlangimpi community which offers a range of landscaping and horticultural services like native seed collection, horticultural plant cultivation and fresh food production.
Pinyama Nursery services Melville Island community residents and public and private sector contracts.
“We intend to use the grant funding to purchase assets required to operate as a 100% independent new indigenous business. This will ensure we retain staff under the New Jobs Program Trial.”
Daniel brings a breadth of skills to Pinyama Nursery including grounds maintenance, aquaculture and aquaponics. Daniel plans to create direct Aboriginal employment opportunities and scale-up the business.
“We didn’t own any equipment to undertake grounds maintenance activities and had to borrow equipment. Having our own lawn mower helps to improve our work efficiency and increase our commercial contract capacity.”
The business grant also helped to purchase a new shade house structure and shipping container to increase plant volume and house the equipment safely.
