Our Impact

Grant funding will be used to fund the catering the for the event including meat from Gunbalanya Meats and bread from Old mate’s bakery both Indigenous owned. We will also be using the funding to print out the community version of our CSIRO impact report that will be available for community

The grant funding will support four Tiwi men from Ngaruwanajirri Art Centre, based in Wurrumiyanga on the Tiwi Islands, to travel to Darwin for the exhibition opening of artists Graham Tipungwuti and David Tipuamantumirri at Outstation Gallery. Funding will cover travel, accommodation, food and support costs for the two artists and two support workers, Gordon Pupangamirri and Adam Tipungwuti. The trip will enable Graham and David to meet audiences, collectors and curators, gain professional experience, and strengthen cultural pride, artistic confidence and future opportunities within the Aboriginal arts sector. Art centre managers are travelling as support team.

Grant funding will support a hands-on printing workshop where artists develop skills in transferring their designs onto fabric and apparel, expanding how culture and story are shared through new mediums. The workshop will build local capability on Yurrwi by supporting intergenerational knowledge exchange, strengthening pride in cultural identity, and creating opportunities for artists to learn from one another. It will also contribute to economic growth by enabling the production of printed garments for presentation in the studio, MACAC website and Darwin Aboriginal Art Fair, increasing income potential while representing clan identities and Milingimbi Art and Culture.

Bula’bula Arts Aboriginal Corporation will use the grant funding to deliver two collaborative workshops for Yolŋu youth in Ramingining: one focused on modelling, confidence-building and fashion skills development, and the other centred on videography and digital media content creation. Participants will apply their newly developed skills through collaboration, with the media group documenting and producing content for the fashion participants. The initiative will culminate in a community-wide fashion show, providing young people with a platform to showcase their growth, creativity and technical abilities while strengthening community pride and engagement.

The BKRLCC team is in the final stages of a three year project to complete a book about plants that grow across western Arnhem Land. Plant names and information about their use have been collected in ten (10) different west Arnhem Land languages for approximately 900 plants. The final published book will only be able to include 100 plants.

The funding will be used to:

1) Finalise the book layout; and
‍
2) Develop a complimentary website that can include the information for all 900 plants.

Publication of the book will be added to our next financial year ILA budget.

The grant funding will support Healthy Skin Week, a community-led health event delivered in Maningrida that focuses on preventing scabies, which can lead to acute rheumatic fever and rheumatic heart disease. Community workers and health workers will visit homes for skin screenings and provide on the spot treatment. Heart scans will also be delivered to support early detection of rheumatic heart disease. Educational workshops will be run for the community. Funding will be used to purchase goods and services that support community participation including equipment and supplies for screening, raffle prizes and catering for community members and volunteer health workers.
