Palmerston came together to celebrate local Aboriginal artist ‘Yung Milla’, also known as Levi Nichaloff, at a free community screening of The Voice Grand Final funded by Aboriginal Investment NT.
“We know Levi as someone who backs young people and reminds them to be proud of where they come from. Seeing the community get behind him on Grand Final night was special for our team and for Palmerston,” Mrs Lee said.
“When we heard the funding was approved, our team felt excited and genuinely supported. We wanted Palmerston families to be able to come together, share food and cheer Levi on without cost being a barrier. Aboriginal Investment NT helped us make that happen,” said GAPAC General Manager Kat Lee.
Yung Milla’s journey and his win, gave local young people and families plenty to be proud of.
Grassroots Action Palmerston Aboriginal Corporation (GAPAC) organised the celebration with community partners. Aboriginal Investment NT supported the Grand Final screening through a $10,000 Community Quick Response Grant. The grant contributed to catering and BBQ supplies, audiovisual and technical support, youth performers and MCs, and a DJ.
GAPAC has worked alongside Levi for close to three years. He joined its team as a youth mentor about ten months ago and continues to encourage young people through music and his work at Aunties Place in Driver.
The free event brought families, Elders and young people together for a shared celebration of Aboriginal talent and a positive role model from their own community. Local organisations, businesses and supporters also contributed to the event.
