At least 15 women from various language groups gather at Babbarra Women’s Centre in Maningrida to collaborate on screen printing, lino cutting, and sewing, sharing ancestral stories through their artistic practice.
Aboriginal Investment NT’s Community Quick Response Grant funded an expansive table, allowing multiple artists to work simultaneously, fostering collaboration among women from over 12 language groups in the region. With a female population of about 49%, resulting in positive social impact for 1,960 women.
The increased production capacity has opened avenues for the Centre for national and international collaborations, such as Kip&Co.
The table also serves as a vital educational tool, providing training opportunities for emerging artists.
Our team travelled to Maningrida to connect with grant recipient – Bawinanga Homelands Aboriginal Corporation. Deirdre and Tash were able to see for themselves how invaluable the table is for the Centre’s artists with a screen-printing workshop underway.
